Jolina Magdangal
There is so much to New York that is also so much Jolina. For one, the diminutive celebrity is comparable to the largest city in the world—in status, talent, and diversity. Known by many as the city that never sleeps, New York’s carefully built reputation is by no means akin to the record held by Jolina Magdangal. This celebrated artist has contributed so much to the entertainment industry that it will only be a matter of time before a bronze Jolina statuette stands in the city of stars.
Currently, her telenovela “I Luv NY” shot on location in New York is consistently topping the ratings battle. Paired with Marvin Agustin and co-starring Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado, Jolina showcases her delightful acting skills once again, ever so professional and endearing. With such perfect timing, GMA Records comes up with the repackaged, two-disc “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Awit” album. This time around, the repackaged album contains “Makulay Na Buhay”, the popular and pleasing theme of “I Luv NY” plus a special bonus VCD which includes the music videos of “Makulay Na Buhay”, “Let Me Be The One”, “Maybe It’s You” and the performance video of “Maybe It’s You”.
The hits are still here in all their meaningful prettiness. “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Awit”, which talks about the dilemma of continuing on despite heartbreaks, easily stands out of the pack with its very expressive appeal. “Always In My Heart” is fascinating in all aspects; it typifies what Jolina should sound like—bubbly, fun, and blissful but still positioned delicately to address both critics and audiences.
First single “Maybe It’s You” carried, and is still carrying, this album to celestial heights. Successful as far as airplays, sales, and elegance are concerned, “Maybe It’s You” is epitomizes vintage splendor. It’s musically intricate yet ironically sounds simple. Her collaboration with Jonathan Ong engineered a sophisticated edge in “Better Off This Way”.
“Akin”, “You Belong To My Heart”, “Whenever You Call”, and “Napamahal Ka Na” sets a slower, mushy pace perhaps because of the heart wrenching lyrical theme stamped on the tracks. Meanwhile, Khavn dela Cruz-penned “Gusto” is more acoustically inclined, limiting the musical arrangements to a minimum: soft guitar strums, lush background instrumentation, and vocals that Jolina flawlessly renders.
Other wonderful tracks in the album are the subtle sounding “Let Me Be The One”, sung with Janno Gibbs, the overtly cheerful “Together Forever” and the ultra-catchy “Maybe”. Also embedded in the CD is the hidden minus-one version of “Makulay Na Buhay”.
As everything as Jolina is, her career milestones speak for the massive involvement she has to the ruthless entertainment industry. Jolina has cleverly positioned herself in the middle of a multifaceted world where the least one can be is one-dimensional.
With Jolina, she’s got all angle covered. Actress, singer, endorser, television host. What more can you ask for? And with this special edition album out, she has certainly, firmly, established herself as one of the greats.
Finished in a visually appealing layout and vibrant design, “Tuloy Pa Rin Ang Awit” is released by GMA Records and is exclusively distributed nationwide by Ivory Music and Video.
